Aa is for Apple

Yesterday we introduced the letter A. We tasted apples and discussed how they were same and different. We practiced writing uppercase and lower case A and painted our favorite color apple. We sure were busy! Everyone wants the rain to go away so we can go outside. I promise we will the FIRST chance we get!!! The kids have been great though and seem to enjoy the bike room. Continue to practice writing your first name at home and assist your child in holding his/her pencil correctly. I have extended the deadline for pictures......if you have not already please send 2 pictures to school. We need one of your child and one of your family. Also, don't forget to check your child's folder for important information about our upcoming fieldtrip. We will also have show and tell Friday, please bring something that begins with the letter Aa.
Thanks so much. Have a great week.

All About Me Project

We are off to a great start! I am really enjoying all of your little ones. They are very sweet and doing so well. We had a wonderful day today and are ready for the rain to go away so we can go outside again.

I just wanted to remind everyone that we need a family picture and a picture of your little one by himself/herself Friday. Thanks for all you do! See you Friday.

Next week we will be learning "All about Me and My Family." Please send a picture of your child and a family picture to school by Friday. We will use the pictures to make a book. We will also spend time writing our names.

February 25, 2009

This month is almost gone and Spring Break will be here before you know it. We are still working and playing hard at preschool. We are talking about the letter Rr this week and the sound that it makes. We are also learning about rhyming words and nursery rhymes. Did you know that singing and reading nursery rhymes is one of the most important things you can do to help your child get ready to read or improve reading skills? It sounds simple, but it helps build essential phonological awareness skills for great readers and writers. Try playing games with your child by picking a word and see who can make the most rhyming words...in fact they don't even have to be real words they can make up words as long as it rhymes. Kids love to be silly, so let them, and you will be surprised how much they will learn. Have fun rhyming.

February Update

I can't believe that it is already February, time flies when you are having fun. I'm sure everyone is looking forward to the fieldtrip to the post office. I know all the kids are excited about mailing something special to you! Be sure to check your mail after our trip. We are going to have cupcakes and exchange Valentines Friday...we are going to keep things simple for this one...we are so busy this month, and I haven't even mention that we are out of school Monday the 16th for President's Day and later this month will have a visit from a local dentist. Please check your child's folder for a current class list. This is a busy and exciting month. FUN, FUN, FUN!
